The appointment of prominent opposition politicians — including FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke and Anambra Governor Chukwuma Soludo — to President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign council has generated significant unease within the ruling All Progressives Congress. Several party stakeholders have expressed concern that the broad-based approach could weaken internal cohesion and confuse the party’s traditional support base.

APC members in multiple states have privately questioned the wisdom of integrating leading figures from rival parties into the campaign structure at this early stage. They argue that the move risks diluting the party’s identity and creating friction with loyalists who have consistently supported the administration. Some candidates from opposition parties have also voiced apprehension that the alliances could undermine their own electoral prospects.

Supporters of the appointments counter that the strategy demonstrates political inclusiveness and expands the president’s network in a complex multi-party environment. They maintain that cross-party collaboration is necessary to consolidate gains and present a united front ahead of a competitive election cycle. “Politics is about building bridges. The goal is national progress, not narrow partisanship,” one campaign insider said.

As reactions continue to surface, senior party leaders have urged members to remain focused on delivering tangible results at the grassroots. No formal national statement addressing the internal grumbling has been issued. Political observers expect further clarification in the weeks ahead as the 2027 campaign architecture takes clearer shape.
